Another stone has been set in the history of Philippine Architecture.
Last March 15-18, the 84th National Convention of the Philippine Institute of Architects
was celebrated in the Legend Villas and WorldBex Convention Center. This year’s Convention had the theme:
Technology, Specialization, Community.
The first day of the convention started with meetings of the College of Fellows and the National Board
headed by Ar. DELFIN M. VIOLA III, FPIA, the President of the National Board.
As delegates arrived, they were assisted by JOANNA PATRICIA BOLANOS, PIA and
DOTHY FLORENTINO. PRC Guidelines were discussed by ERNESTO ANTONINO D. NASOL, FPIA and
JOSEFINA B. ALFONSO, PIA. A Thanksgiving Mass led by FR. ELISEO PIO SANTOS, SDB of
Don Bosco Technical College followed the discussion.
After the mass, a colorful Architects’ RODEO NIGHT followed with STEPHEN MAXIMO R. VIOLA, PIA and MARIE JENNIFER M. SANCHEZ, PIA as Master of Ceremonies. Sections from across the country
had their own presentations and there were also awards for Best Male and Female
Cowboy Attire for those who nailed the Rodeo Theme.
The second day of the Convention started with a savory buffet breakfast.
It was followed by a visit to the NATIONAL CENTER FOR MENTAL HEALTH COMPOUND
as a service to the community and to our country. A Wall Mural Painting was also opened
to the public as Mandaluyong City Mayor CARMELITA AGUILAR ABALOS welcomed delegates
of the convention.
The Filipino tradition was full circle on the Boodle fight in the Tennis Court.
This was followed by the Annual Business Meeting and Election.
The first part was the Business Meeting Proper which was started by an Invocation
followed by the National Antem and PIA Hymn. Call to order was done by
President DELFIN M. VIOLA III, FPIA followed by the quorum called by PIA Secretary
KENNETH C. YU, PIA. Reports of this year’s developments and opportunities followed.
The second part was the exercise of democracy in the Institute. This was the Nomination and Election.

The new leaders immediately went to wrk on their first meeting after the election.
The Processional Assembly followed with MARIA TERESA C. VELASCO, FPIA as the Master of Ceremonies.
